Reggio Emilia digitizes parking guidance with IoT sensors

Country: Italy
Project of: Guidance system
Main products: U-Spot 2.0 IoT sensing sensors, platform and dynamic signaling
The challenge

Reggio Emilia, like many other cities undergoing digital transformation, faced the challenge of reducing traffic arising from the search for parking. Drivers were wasting time and fuel driving around, contributing to congestion and an unnecessary increase in pollutant emissions.

The city needed a solution that would help improve the occupancy of available parking spaces and provide users with reliable, real-time information to find parking more quickly and efficiently.

The solution

To meet this challenge, 36 U-Spot 2.0 IoT detection sensors have been installed in collaboration with Parkit.

The system guides drivers to free spaces using signage panels and mobile applications connected to sensors. The information is updated in real time and helps reduce unnecessary trips within the city.

Thanks to Urbiotica’s platform, the City Council monitors parking usage, facilitating more efficient and data-driven management, with direct benefits for urban mobility and sustainability.

Benefits of implementing this solution
  • Reduced churning traffic by guiding drivers directly to available spaces.
  • Reduction of polluting emissions by avoiding unnecessary trips.
  • Improved user experience by facilitating access to the parking lot in less time.
  • Efficient, data-driven management, thanks to remote control of the system from the platform.
  • Scalable and autonomous system, ready to operate without continuous maintenance and applicable to other areas or cities.
