Qatar digitizes 28,000 parking spaces for the World Cup with Urbiotica's Smart Parking solution

Country: Qatar
Project of: Smart Parking
Main products: Intelligent parking management platform, real-time occupancy sensors and integration with the TASMU App for dynamic guidance.
The challenge

For the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar needed to provide an efficient, modern and chaos-free parking experience for drivers and visitors. Despite having thousands of spaces available, the lack of centralized, real-time information on occupancy posed a risk of congestion, wasted time and increased pollutant emissions.

The goal was to offer a unified digital experience to users, integrating the different parking operators under a single smart platform, accessible from cell phones, that would improve urban mobility and avoid traffic congestion during a worldwide event.

The solution

Urbiotica, together with its partner Prime Park Services, implemented a national Smart Parking platform to monitor and manage 28,000 parking spaces in key areas of the country.

This solution collects data from both in-house sensors and other sources to provide global and real-time information on the availability of parking spaces.

The system is integrated with the TASMU mobile application, which guides drivers directly to free spaces. The service covers critical areas such as Corniche, West Bay, Souq Waqif, Al Bidaa Park, Gate Mall, Lusail or Msheireb, and continues to expand its coverage.

The solution is part of the national Smart Qatar (TASMU) program and was made possible through collaboration between various government entities, including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Municipalities and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

Benefits of implementing this solution
  • Unified and efficient parking management at national level, with centralized and real-time information.

  • Reduced traffic and congestion, especially during large events, thanks to dynamic guidance.

  • Improved user experience by facilitating the location of available spaces through a mobile app.

  • Commitment to sustainability and digitalization, reducing emissions derived from the search for parking.

  • Scalability for the future, allowing the integration of new zones and operators within a common platform.

His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Hukoomi.
"The launch of the Smart Parking project is an important step towards Smart Qatar as it provides sustainable benefits and technologies to our community in Qatar."
