Parking guidance in Shopping City Süd, Vienna to lower vehicle congestion
To lower vehicle congestion in the parking lot and make the process easier for customers
Shopping City Süd (SCS) is the largest shopping center with outdoor parking in Austria, with an area of 225,860 m2 and 10,000 parking spots. It welcomes more than 23 million people, and customers were constantly battling major vehicle congestion in the parking lot, leading them to waste a lot of time searching for parking, which influenced their shopping behavior.
SCS needed to solve this problem, as it was causing a drop in the number of customers coming to the shopping center and harming its stores’ bottom line.
The project uses monitoring sensors and installed 100 message signs.
The solution implemented in the shopping center managed to optimize management of the parking lot. U-Spot sensors were deployed in 3,500 parking spots, and U-Flow sensors were installed at the parking lot’s entrances and exits.
The data captured by the sensors are transformed into useful information which guides customers directly to the free spots thanks to the more than 100 dynamic message signs (link to product) installed.
This information optimizes parking management and helps the shopping center define restructuring and improvement plans based on the statistics and mobility reports provided.
