Implementation of dynamic parking signage at Ricany: A model of success in sustainable mobility
The municipality of Ricany in the Czech Republic faced the challenge of efficiently managing limited parking spaces in the city center, especially around key locations such as the town hall and a kindergarten.
The problem centered on low vehicle turnover in time-limited parking spaces, which led to prolonged occupancy and made it difficult for other citizens to find parking spaces. In addition, there was a need to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of rotation and efficient use of these spaces, aligning with municipal regulations that promoted sustainable mobility practices.
The result has been a clear success, with citizens responding positively to the awareness measure.
The City Council has observed a significant increase in the rotation of parking spaces, thus fulfilling the initial objective of the campaign.
The City implemented an innovative dynamic signage solution in five strategically located parking spaces at two key points in the city. This signage consisted of variable display panels that showed the elapsed parking time in each space. When the time exceeded 15 minutes, the number was highlighted in red, acting as a visual reminder to encourage vehicle turnover. In addition, these parking spaces were painted green to enhance their visibility and highlight their purpose of supporting sustainable mobility practices.
