The Principality of Monaco will become the first city in the world to deploy Urbiotica’s new U-Spot surface sensors as part of a project aimed at digitizing all parking spaces reserved for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM).
This initiative is aligned with the national plan Handipact Monaco, launched in 2023 with the aim of positioning Monaco as a benchmark in the inclusion of people with disabilities.
A technological solution adapted to a unique urban environment
Monaco’s urban landscape, which is transformed annually to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix, presents specific infrastructure challenges. Therefore, a solution that avoids civil engineering works was essential. U-Spot surface sensors, which are installed without the need for drilling, offer fast and reversible installation, ideal for such a dynamic environment.
In collaboration with local integrator Tickitall, 75 sensors will be installed in the PRM spaces, allowing real-time detection of their availability. This technology, with NB-IoT connectivity and a lifespan of up to 10 years, ensures optimal management and reduces the inappropriate use of these reserved spaces.
A firm commitment to inclusion
Driven by the Handipact Monaco plan – an initiative of the Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Christophe Robino –this project brings together public and private stakeholders around nine strategic pillars, including mobility and accessibility, with the clear objective of making the Principality a center of excellence for the inclusion of people with disabilities. It is also part of Extended Monaco, the Principality’s digital transformation program that seeks to leverage technological innovation to improve public services and everyday life.
“This collaboration with Urbiotica demonstrates our commitment to harness technological innovations to tangibly improve the daily lives of people with disabilities. By facilitating access to parking spaces for PRM, we are taking another step towards a more inclusive Principality,” stated Lionel Galfré, Technical Advisor for People with Disabilities at the Department of Social Affairs and Health.
A world first with promising prospects
For Urbiotica, this deployment in Monaco represents the first global implementation of the U-Spot surface sensor.
“We are proud that Monaco, with its strong commitment to inclusion, is the first city to adopt our new solution. This project demonstrates that technology and accessibility can go hand in hand to meet the specific needs of modern cities,” highlighted Josep Maria Torras, CEO of Urbiotica.
