The city of Ascoli, Italy, has taken its first step towards parking digitization with the installation of IoT detection sensors in Piazza Viola. This project, carried out in collaboration with the Saba Group, aims to optimize parking management and improve mobility in the city center.
Like many other European cities, Ascoli faced challenges in managing its regulated parking spaces. The lack of real-time information on parking availability generated unnecessary traffic, increasing congestion and polluting emissions.

To address this problem, 55 sensors have been installed in Piazza Viola. These devices collect real-time data on parking space occupancy, allowing a more accurate analysis of usage patterns and contributing to better parking planning in the city. In addition, they help reduce the unnecessary circulation of vehicles in search of parking, which positively impacts congestion and reduces polluting emissions.
The integration of driver information systems, such as mobile applications or variable message signs, could be a next step to maximize the benefits of this initiative.
This initial deployment of detection sensors demonstrates Ascoli’s commitment to modernizing urban mobility and optimizing public space.
