Accessibility to stores, restaurants and services was complicated while L’Escala was seen as a saturated destination, hence measures were taken to improve circulation and urban planning.
732 smart parking spaces to reduce traffic jams in L’Escala
The success story in L’Escala was done in two phases, including to the intelligent guidance system a total of 732 parking spaces located in the busiest streets of the center.

In l’Escala, Urbiotica deployed U-Spot detection sensors in selected squares to detect real-time occupancy and counting sensors at the entrances and exits of the five busiest parking lots in the town center. In this way, local authorities could communicate with the population and better understand people’s needs.
The data collected by these sensors is displayed on variable signage panels located at key points in the municipality, guiding visitors and residents to spaces where they can park. This reduced the unnecessary circulation of vehicles blocking streets and circling in search of parking.
