Shopping City Süd, the shopping mall with the largest outdoor parking lot in Austria, becomes an Urbiotica success story after implementing our smart solutions.

With an area of 225,860 m2 and more than 23 million visitors, this shopping center in Vienna is one of the city’s most important leisure spots, but its success also caused constant traffic jams in the parking lot. Customers were often wasting too much time looking for a free space, which affected their shopping experience and reduced their engagement with the outlets. Some began to spend less time at the mall, others even reconsidered returning given the inconvenience of parking.

Faced with this situation, Shopping City Süd decided to improve its internal mobility and opt for the digitalization of the parking lot to make visits more comfortable.

The solution

Detection and counting sensors improve shopping experience in Vienna

At Vienna’s Shopping City Süd, U-Spot detection sensors and counting sensors were installed, as well as variable signage panels to improve parking management.

In this shopping mall in Austria, U-Spot sensors were deployed in 3,500 parking spaces and several counting sensors at the entrances and exits of the parking lot. The data they collect is displayed in real time on the 100 variable signage panels at strategic points around the site to guide customers directly to free spaces.

Thanks to this information, Shopping City Süd was able to optimize parking management and better understand their customers’ needs for future restructuring projects.
