The transformation toward a smart Almería in urban mobility

The Almería City Council is spearheading an ambitious transformation project aimed at optimizing urban mobility and promoting sustainable development in the region. With the goal of becoming a benchmark in terms of smart city mobility, this initiative’s primary objective is to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of transportation, while providing a smoother and more comfortable mobility experience for local residents.

The project faces the primary challenge of addressing entrenched mobility issues in Almería, such as traffic congestion, pollution, and the lack of sustainable transport options. To tackle these challenges, a comprehensive solution that leverages cutting-edge technologies is proposed.

In this context, M2M NB-IoT sensors have been implemented, integrated with Urbiotica’s Smart Parking platform. These sensors use the NB-IoT network to transmit real-time data detected by the installed system, which will be used to inform citizens about the availability of parking spaces in the city.

The implemented solution detects the occupancy of parking spaces in real-time, allowing users to easily find available spaces through mobile applications or informational panels.

In addition to facilitating the search for parking, M2M sensors also play a crucial role in the cities curbside management. By detecting the occupancy of spaces and monitoring usage patterns, these systems can identify potential cases of parking violations, such as improper parking or unauthorized use of reserved spaces.

In summary, the initiative led by the City Council represents a significant step toward building a smarter, more connected, and sustainable Almería in terms of urban mobility. With the joint commitment of all involved parties, this project is expected to mark a milestone in the city’s evolution toward a more prosperous and equitable future for all its inhabitants.
