Urbiotica chosen again for the second phase of the smart parking project in Valencia

The City Council of Valencia is expanding its smart parking project in collaboration with Pavapark by executing the second phase of its innovative smart city initiative, reaffirming its commitment to transforming into a smarter and more sustainable city. This phase will expand the initial project implemented with Urbiotica, including the sensorization of 2.000 new parking spaces and integrating Urbiotica’s Smart Parking platform with the city’s Smart City platform, VLCi. This will collect data from all installed sensors and offer advanced features such as analytics and the management of regulated parking spaces.

The project deployment has been organized into two distinct phases:

First Phase: During this initial stage, M2M sensors were installed in parking spaces, prioritizing those designated for people with reduced mobility (PRM) and loading areas (L&U). This initial approach focused on significantly improving accessibility and ensuring that the most critical areas were adequately equipped.

Second Phase: In the current stage, another 2,000 M2M sensors will be added, expanding coverage and maintaining a focus on efficiency and accessibility. This expansion ensures a more robust and effective implementation of the smart parking system, optimizing mobility and the use of public space.

Objectives and benefits

With this initiative, València City Council hopes to:

  • Optimization of Public Space Management: Through a more efficient management of the parking spaces.
  • Reduction of Traffic, Pollution, and Noise: By decreasing the time drivers spend searching for parking.
  • Improvement of Accessibility: Especially benefiting people with reduced mobility and users of loading areas.

Implementation and technology

Magnetic sensors will be installed beneath the surface of parking spaces and will transmit real-time data to the municipal platform VLCi. Citizens will be able to access information about the status of these sensor-equipped spaces through the mobile application AppValencia. Additionally, an analytics tool will enable municipal services to identify mobility improvements and monitor compliance with regulations. This project is partially funded by the European Next Generation funds.

Impact on citizens

With the award of this contract to Urbiotica, the City Council of València reaffirms its commitment to a more accessible and environmentally friendly city. The significant investment in advanced technology will not only enhance the quality of life for citizens but also bolster urban sustainability overall.

This smart parking project represents a pivotal step in the modernization of urban space management in València. The implementation of advanced technology will not only optimize mobility and reduce environmental impact but also improve accessibility for all citizens. With initiatives like this, València is at the forefront of smart cities, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and sustainability and marking a crucial milestone in its transformation into a city of the future.
