The City Council of Torrent (Valencia) has completed a new phase of its urban digitalization strategy with the installation of smart sensors in parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility (PRM). This action has been carried out in collaboration with Pavapark, technological partner of the project, and reinforces the municipality’s commitment to a more accessible, efficient and connected mobility.
In total, 169 PRM plazas have been sensorized in different phases, within a plan that combines public funding and institutional support in the framework of smart city initiatives.
The implemented solution is based on NB-IoT sensors installed in the pavement. These devices detect in real time whether a plaza is occupied or free, sending the information both to the municipal management platform and to a mobile application for citizens. In addition to facilitating access to up-to-date information on the availability of parking spaces, the system plays a key role in monitoring the correct use of these spaces.
One of the great benefits of this project is the improvement in the control of improper use. Local police can act more effectively thanks to real-time alerts, ensuring compliance with regulations and protecting the rights of people with reduced mobility.
In addition, the use of this technology reduces the need for unnecessary trips and improves the experience of users who actually need these spaces. It also contributes to greater operational efficiency in parking management, and helps reduce congestion and emissions associated with parking search traffic.
A clear example of how technology can transform urban mobility, making it fairer, more sustainable and people-centered.
