Successful implementation of dynamic signage in the time-limited parking zones of the City Hall Ricany, Czech Republic

Barcelona | December 2023 – In an effort to promote awareness about the efficient use of parking space and educate citizens, the City Council of Ricany, located in the Czech Republic, has successfully implemented with the help of Urbiotica, a dynamic sign in five parking spaces strategically distributed in two different locations, two of them in front of the city hall and the others on the side.

The dynamic signage involves the installation of variable display panels in five parking spaces strategically located in two different locations. Five spaces are located near the center of town, where Ricany City Hall and a daycare center are located. The panels visually display the elapsed parking time for each designated space in a clear and visual manner.

The innovative formula is designed to make drivers aware of the importance of parking space rotation. As part of this initiative, when parking time exceeds 15 minutes, the number displayed is highlighted in red, serving as a visual reminder to encourage rotation and efficient use of parking resources.

This project aligns with the Municipality’s pioneering limited parking time regulation, which was introduced during the summer of 2023. To enhance the visibility of these dedicated spaces, they have been painted with a distinctive green color, symbolizing the municipal commitment to promoting sustainable practices.

The result has been a clear success, and citizens responded positively to the awareness measure. The City Council has observed a significant increase in the rotation of parking spaces, thus fulfilling the initial objective of the campaign.

“We are delighted to see how the community has embraced this initiative,”said David Michalička of the Municipality of Ricany, Czech Republic. The dynamic sign has proven to be an effective tool for educating citizens about the importance of sharing parking space and promoting more sustainable practices.

Based on the success achieved, the City Council plans to expand this initiative by 2024, with the implementation of 30 additional plazas in different locations throughout the city.

This project joins the growing trend of smart cities seeking innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants and promote sustainable mobility.
