The city of João Pessoa is betting on a scalable and sustainable smart parking model.

The Brazilian city of João Pessoa is preparing to take a decisive step towards the digitization of on-street parking with the implementation of an intelligent guidance and control system, awarded to our Brazilian partner Guidepark and whose deployment will begin by the end of 2025.

The project envisages the implementation of a Smart Parking system that will make it possible to manage up to 6,000 parking spaces over several years. The plan will be developed in phases: 2,000 spaces will be installed in the first stage, and then 2,000 additional spaces will be added each year until the total number is reached.

The implemented solution will combine parking space detection technologies with IoT sensors to monitor parking occupancy in real time. The data generated by the system will be directly integrated into Guidepark’s platform, from where both driver guidance and compliance control will be managed through automated alerts.

The system will inform users about the availability of parking spaces through a mobile application and dynamic signage panels, while automatically notifying possible infractions in regulated areas, thus optimizing control tasks on public roads.

With this initiative, João Pessoa seeks to improve parking rotation and reduce traffic jostling, as well as reduce payment violations. The data generated by the system will also enable municipal authorities to plan urban mobility policies with greater precision.

This project represents an important step towards a more efficient, technological and citizen-centered management of public parking space.
